National University of Science and Technology or NUST is one the best engineering universities of Pakistan. The NUST Entry Test is also known as NET amongst students. NET is the most difficult engineering university test in Pakistan.
Students often wonder how is NUST merit calculated and they do not know how to calculate NUST merit position. This article will give you a formula to help you calculate your merit score and then will tell you if your merit score is good enough to get you a seat in your dream program.
To apply to NUST, you must give the NUST Entry Test also known as NET and get a high merit score. NUST merit score is calculated according to the aggregate formula given by NUST. This combines your matric and inter (or O and A levels marks) and your NET score.
In short, the merit generation criteria for NUST is:
Formula for NUST merit score calculation for inter students:
([SSC Marks/1100 x 100] x 0.1) + ([FSC Marks/1100 x 100] x 0.15) + ([NET Score/200 x 100] x 0.75)
Formula for NUST merit score calculation for A level students:
(O level equivalence percentage x 0.25) + ([NET Score/200 x 100] x 0.75)
For students with an Intermediate background
For students with an O / A Levels background
Students often get confused about whether their NET score is good enough or if they should retake the test. A simple way to determine this is to calculate your merit score using the formula mentioned above. The NUST Merit list is published one month after the final round of NET, and each student is given their merit number or merit position. Typically, there are multiple merit lists for different programs, and they notify you of the minimum merit score required for each program.
NUST doesn’t display a general merit list or closing merit score and percentages, but usually announce closing merit positions for each program and campus. These numbers change every year based on number of students and the difficulty level of the test, which makes it difficult to guess how much aggregate is required for NUST. Once you know how are NUST aggregate marks calculated, you can get an estimate of your merit position using the following table. The higher your merit number, the more chances you have of getting into your desired program and campus.
It can be difficult to determine how much to score in NET to gain admission NUST but this formula and guide can give you an idea what NET score to target to get into one of the best engineering universities in Pakistan. If you are concerned about other aspects of your NUST application, then refer to this NUST admission guide.
Fee structure fr national students is defined in this table with NUST fee structure.
The eligibility criteria is as follows: Obtained SSC & HSSC or equivalent with 60% marks and must have passed NUMS MDCAT – 2024 with 55% marks.
