ECAT is an engineering entry test required for admission to top universities like UET (University of Engineering and Technology), NUST, GIKI, FAST, and NED. It evaluates students' proficiency in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English.
ECAT is a standardized test mandatory for admission into public and private engineering universities in Punjab, Pakistan. The test evaluates a candidate's grasp of fundamental concepts and problem-solving abilities.
Test Format and Duration
For detailed information on UET ECAT, refer to the official UET admission portal.
For Fall 2025 admissions, UET Lahore has scheduled two ECATs:
Candidates can appear in both tests, with the best score considered for merit calculation. The registration deadline for the first ECAT was extended to March 4, 2025, due to a bank holiday.

Even though we have mentioned this in our other blogs, it is important to note that one of the biggest challenges in ECAT is the no calculator policy, especially for math-heavy problems in Physics and Mathematics. Here’s how to handle calculations effectively:

Memorizing this table eliminates the need for trigonometric calculations.

By practicing these techniques, you will be well-prepared for the ECAT’s no-calculator rule, giving you an edge over other candidates.
As the test date looms over your heads, it is essential to keep in mind the following last-minute details to ensure that the test goes well:
Familiarize yourself with the structure, subjects, marking scheme, and time constraints to avoid surprises on test day.
If you are unsure about an answer:

Start with past papers, concept building, and mock tests.
Focus on time management, conceptual clarity, and problem-solving skills.
Typically 100 MCQs.
It depends on preparation; consistent practice & past paper solving make it easier.
Maqsad provides ECAT preparation notes PDF and ECAT past papers with answers for free.
ECAT is required for admission to UET Lahore, UET Taxila, UET Peshawar, MUET, IST, and several other public and private engineering universities in Pakistan. Some universities like NUST, GIKI, and PIEAS conduct their own entry tests instead. Always check the official university website for specific requirements.
