In recent weeks, the MDCAT 2024 has stirred significant interest among aspiring medical students across Pakistan, particularly with news of a possible reconduct under the administration of SZABMU (Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University. And now it’s official:
The Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) has announced a reconduct of the MDCAT 2024 for students affected by earlier exam discrepancies at 11:30AM today.
As per the order of Islamabad High Court, no additional fees will be charged, and existing registrations will remain valid. The syllabus and exam pattern will also remain unchanged.
Here’s everything we know so far about this highly anticipated exam development, including the reasons behind it, the expected timelines, and how it impacts students aiming for a career in medicine.
The demand for an MDCAT reconduct initially surfaced due to concerns about transparency and fairness in the testing process. Students, parents, and education advocates voiced apprehensions about irregularities in the original MDCAT exam, held earlier in 2024. Complaints were filed regarding the quality and relevance of some questions, which students felt didn’t align with the standard syllabus. There were also allegations of irregularities and injustices in the exam.
This contributed to the collective outcry for a fair, unbiased re-examination, which SZABMU has acknowledged and taken steps to address. There was a discussion about whether grace marks should be given to students or should the MDCAT 2024 be reconducted. The court advised against awarding grace marks, stating that if granted, another student might challenge it in the future.
The IHC order offers a second chance to students who believe they were unfairly affected by the previous exam.
All students who initially registered with SZABMU for the MDCAT are eligible to sit for the reconduct. There are no additional requirements for eligibility other than prior registration with SZABMU for the 2024 MDCAT. These candidates shall also be allowed to exercise the option to retain the first MDCAT 2024 result or the result of the second MDCAT 2024.
The reconducted MDCAT exam is scheduled for 1st December 2024. Students are advised to prepare accordingly and follow SZABMU’s official announcements for any further updates.
Students participating in the reconduct will not be charged any extra fees. Existing registrations will be valid, and students do not need to pay or re-register for the SZABMU MDCAT reconduct.
The syllabus and exam pattern for the reconduct will remain identical to the original MDCAT 2024 Syllabus. There are no changes to the topics, structure, or question distribution for the SZABMU MDCAT reconduct.
To ensure transparency, SZABMU will upload the MDCAT question paper on its website 24 hours after the exam is conducted. This allows students to review the questions and verify answers as needed.
This MDCAT reconduct offers students a fair opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge without additional fees or changes in exam structure. Be sure to stay updated through SZABMU’s official channels.
